A joint team of scientists from Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute and the Mayo Clinic were selected as a winner of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)’s 2014 Discovery Fast Track Challenge, which is designed to fast track the translation of academic research into new and innovative therapies. Researchers from Sanford-Burnham and Mayo Clinic will work with GSK’s Discovery Partnerships with Academia and Molecular Discovery Research teams to screen their library of compounds for potential new drugs to treat resistant hypertension, blood pressure that has not been responsive to drug therapy. “This truly is a one-of-a-kind partnership and promising approach to finding a new treatment for hypertension,” said Siobhan Malany, Ph.D., chemical biology team leader in the Institute’s Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics.
